I have an eight year old daughter who was curious
about taking karate. She was kind of scared because
of how karate is portrayed on television as being
bloody and violent. After convincing her to go to an
introductory class, she has now realized there are
so many wonderful aspects of Kenpo!
She has learned to be confident in herself and I’ve
notice the respect and discipline have risen
tremendously. She has also met so many wonderful
friends. She won’t stop talking about Kenpo class
and she has stressed to me constantly that she wants
that black belt!
Sincerely,
Brian Knight
Father of Britney Knight yellow belt
My name is Melissa Devlin. I am a single mother with
three wonderful children. When I first came to AIK
my intentions were to sign my very active daughter
up for a class that would burn energy, teach self
discipline and have fun! (She is currently a little
dragon blue belt). Before we left that first day,
not only did I sign my daughter up but my 12 year
old son and myself as well!!! We have all been
students for 9 months and we love it. My son (a
junior orange belt) has learned so much, not only
about karate and self defense, but about inner
strength he never knew he had and a certain
confidence that has helped him through the start of
middle school. At home both of my children have
started taking more responsibility for their
actions; there is more respect and a lot less
debating over chores and homework. As for me I have
totally enjoyed attending classes. I have made many
new friends. I also have learned new things about
myself.
It’s given me confidence and strength both
physically and mentally. I have never been "into
sports" so I didn’t think I would do well... but
after many hours of hard work and a wonderfully
supportive instructor I am doing great, having fun,
and learning a lot. Mr. and Mrs. Howden have both
been a great support for me and my kids. They have a
terrific school and I would recommend anyone to join
without hesitation.
